Bornite
specimen number:
3651157
location:
Bristol Copper mine, Bristol, Hartford Co., Connecticut, USA
description:
Extremely neat specimen I think for this Connecticut classic with fingerlike crystal groupings of brilliant bluish purple iridescent bornite across the top of this matrix. One often sees, well not so often, chalcocite specimens from this famous old locality. Bournonite is another thing. This does have some damage as seen. The catalog for the collection notes that this was collected by Dr. Isaac Smith in 1875. His daughter married a man by the name of Wheaton whose collection was bought by Schortmann's minerals in 1960.
